OhioJams Gig Swap
Spread your wings and join forces with an act in another Ohio metropolitan area, booking them to open for you in your hometown, and confirming your band to open for them in their hometown.
Concept:
Your band has an established fanbase and live performances in an Ohio metropolitan area. Your group wishes to perform in another metropolitan area in Ohio, where your band is not yet established. Your band connects with a band in another market in Ohio, and that band opens for your band at a confirmed gig in your hometown. In return, your band opens for the other band for one of their confirmed gigs in their home market. The gig swap should be approximately equal in terms of venue and pay, with the two bands agreeing to split the pay 50/50 for both gigs.
Example:
- “The Buckears” are an established jam-band based in Columbus, aiming to perform in Cincinnati.
- “The Whodeys” are an established jam-band based in Cincinnati, aiming to perform in Columbus.
- The Buckears and The Whodeys contact each other and agree to a gig swap.
- The Buckears have a confirmed gig at their Columbus homebase venue; they contact the venue and confirm The Whodeys to open for The Buckears at their next Columbus gig.
- The Whodeys have a confirmed gig at their Cincinnati homebase venue; they contact the venue and confirm The Buckears to open for The Whodeys at their next Cincinnati gig.
- The opening band performs around 90 minutes; the headliner performs around 90 to 120 minutes. (Optionally, each band may coordinate to invite a member or member(s) of the other band to join them onstage for a song or two.)
- Both bands agree to split the pay equally 50/50 for both gigs, to help offset the opener’s travel expenses in both cases. Ideally the two gigs occur within a month of each other, for cross-promotion.
- OhioJams does not receive any compensation; the groups mention OhioJams onstage and encourage their fans to visit ohiojams.net.
Singer/Songwriter Musician Gig Swap
Similar concept as the bands’ gig swap detailed above, typically in smaller venues and optionally performing alternating sets. For singer/songwriters’ gig swaps, the musicians are encouraged to end the night by performing a few songs together from their common repertoires.
